Minutes of the Unit 509 Board Meeting

Call to Order

President Tony Jackson called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. at the Bridge
Gallery

Attended

Board members in attendance were Tony Jackson, Jan Conklin, Maxine
Reagh, Cathy Wagener, Nan Halberg and Donna Edwards, which constitutes
a quorum. Also present was Kathy Venton.

Approval of Minutes

Cathy Wagener moved approval of the February 18th minutes. Donna
Edwards seconded the motion.

Treasurer’s Report

Maxine Reagh distributed copies and presented the Treasurer’s Report. The
Treasurer’s report is posted at the Gallery on the bulletin board and is
available upon request.

Committee Reports

Tournaments – Maxine Reagh
Spring Sectional – Maxine distributed a Statement of Receipts and
Expenditures for the Spring Sectional along with a handout on Unit 509
Sectionals attendance and profits.

The Board received an inquiry into how we might help Tournament
Directors be able to get things started smoothly and on time at our
Sectionals. We discussed the possibility of hiring a third director or making
signage to clarify which line to stand in while waiting to register and pay.
We have contacted the Director to get her input.

Education – Nan Halberg
Nan reported there are 6-7 mentor relationships under way.

Membership – Cathy Wagener
Cathy reported that Harley has given her a template for the back of the free
play coupons.
The awards ceremony scheduled for April 7th is going along well.

Hospitality – Donna Edwards
Donna expressed concern over an article in the Press Democrat about the
sale of the Oakmont Golf Club and Quail Inn Restaurant and how that might
impact our holiday party. The party will be scheduled the weekend after the
Nationals in San Francisco. Donna will make some calls about alternate
locations.

Old (Unfinished) Business

Mentoring Program – The question of any rule or agreement about how
many times a mentee can participate came up. Kathy stated as long as there
is room, a mentee can repeat the program as long as they are under 50
master points. Cecelia requested we encourage mentors not to coach after
each hand at the table.

New Business

Phishing Scams – There have been three attempted phishing scams directed
at board members recently, all requesting amounts that approximate amounts
of money reported in either the Treasurer’s Report or in Sectional Reports. A
discussion was held and it was decided that we will no longer publish either
of these reports online. They will be posted at the Bridge Gallery and will
be available from the Treasurer by request.

2019 NABC San Francisco – Tony received an email from Sigrid Price
asking for a volunteer coordinator on Saturday, December 7th, sharing with
Unit 512 in Sonoma and Unit 473 in Reno. Volunteers assist with
registration, the partnership desk and the novice program. Kathy Venton
stated she would volunteer this year. On Friday, November 29, all units
participate with volunteers.

The Longest Day – Stephanie Poley distributed Planning Meeting Minutes
to the Board. Discussion ensued regarding a 9:30 am social Bridge game
versus a 299 game. It was decided a 299 game would be held at 9:00 am to
12:00 pm with 18-21 boards, followed by lunch and an open game starting at
1:00 pm. Letters to be given to potential donors will be made available.

Adjournment

The next meeting will be on April 15, 2019, starting at 5:00 p.m. at the
Bridge Gallery.

The meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted by:
Jan Conklin
